Curriculum Vitae
Katrin Sontag is a cultural anthropologist and a member of the teaching team of the MA programme “Changing Societies” at the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Basel.
Since 2022, she is a professor of Intercultural Management at Furtwangen University.
From 2017-2022 she was a postdoc fellow at the nccr – on the move (National Center of Competence in Research – the Migration Mobility Nexus) in the project “Perimeters of Multilayered Democratic Citizenship in a Mobile and Multicultural World” that focused on struggles of citizenship. In a previous research project as postdoc fellow at the nccr – on the move, she studied the access to higher education of students with refugee backgrounds („Comparative Case Study on Refugees at Universities in Mulhouse (F), Freiburg (D) and Basel (CH)“).
Between 2012-2016 she was a doctoral researcher and assistant (2015/16) and conducted research on mobile entrepreneurs and founders of born global startups in the Swiss National Science Foundation project „Leben und Arbeiten an verschiedenen Orten: Biographie und Arbeitsmigration von Hochqualifizierten aus kulturanthropologischer Perspektive“ at the University of Basel.
She completed her MA in 2007 at the University of Iceland focussing on elf belief and encounters in her thesis and previously studied cultural anthropology, languages, economics and educational sciences at Freie Universität Berlin and theology and Indian philosophy at the United Theological College in Bangalore, India.
