Interlinking Cultural Heritage Data
What are cultural heritage data and how to connect them on the web? Linking cultural heritage data through semantic web technologies is key to making heritage collections understandable and useful to both humans and computers. Taking it a step further, connecting these resources with other datasets facilitate their enrichment and discovery.
This interlinking endeavour requires standardised methods for describing heritage data so that it can be understood and reused by everyone. One of the challenges is to find a balance between completeness and precision of expression and usability of the resulting datasets.
The lecture focuses on investigating how the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) and Linked Art, two community-driven initiatives whose standards follow the Linked Open Usable Data (LOUD) design principles, can facilitate the accessibility of cultural heritage collections through socio-technical practices.
