Claudia Wilopo is a PhD candidate at the Department of Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology, University of Basel. She holds a Master in Urban Studies and Bachelor in Geography, Politics and International Relations. Her research interests are migration, racial profiling, intersectionality, bordering and citizenship practices in Europe. She was awarded the G3S-start-up grant, the antelope@university fellowship and currently holds a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) scholarship. Claudia has co-authored a book on Racial Profiling in Switzerland published in German with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
Her PhD project analyses the process of illegalisation of migrants in the Canton of Zurich. Based on interviews, observations and go-alongs, Claudia examines the spatiotemporal mechanism of illegality. Her projects draws attention to how bordering practices and politics of control are navigated and contested. It discusses how notions of borders, citizenship and ‘illegality’ are challenged by migrants’ ‘acts of citizenship’.
